Jack is 1!

Jack's birthday party was a great success! We celebrated on Saturday, January 26th. We had a party at our house with hamburgers and hotdogs, cake and ice cream. On Jack's actual birthday (the 25th) he was sick. he woke up and we went to daycare like normal, but he was cranky. He didn't eat much breakfast and then threw up after taking one bite of lunch. We went home and he slept the rest of the day and all night. He was ready to party by Saturday, but spread the bug to a few of the partygoers.

Jack had his 1 year check up on February 4th. He weighs 21 pounds and is 29 1/2 inches long. It puts his somewhere around 10-25 percentile for weight and 25-50th percentile for height. He had to get his blood drawn after his appointment to check for lead and just CBC. He did not like it much, especially when they had to stick him a second time. He knew what was coming at that point and was not too thrilled. Ella was with us and she did a very good job of staying quiet and sitting in a chair while Jack had his blood drawn. On the following Wednesday, I took him to get his 1 year vaccinations. He had to get 5 shots total. One in each arm, two in his left leg, and one in his right leg. He was not too happy with those nurses, but recovered quickly. His legs were pretty tender the next two days, but he didn't run a fever. Overall, he is a healthy boy and is developing normally. He sleeps through the night most nights. He loves to eat and does this very well. We have started him on whole milk and he seems to like to just fine. He nurses in the morning and before bed, but drinks milk the other 2 times during the week. Most of the time on the weekends I just nurse him during the day too. (We like to bond). He is walking and even running a little. He stills loves to play ball and has become very interested in putting things in and taking them out. He spends lots of time working on the shape sorter at daycare and at home. He has also been paying more attention to the things that adults do such as cleaning up. He insists on helping his teachers wipe the changing table off after every diaper change. he even has helped me wipe the table, dust the living room, and swiffer the floors. He can say Momma, Dada, Ella, Sam, ball, and uh-oh. He might be able to say "down", but it sounds a lot like "sam". Which doesn't surprise me because often I say yell, "Down Sam" throughout our meals because she tries to eat Jack's food.

Ella is fabulous! She is really funny and clever these days. Not a day passes that she doesn't make me laugh. Her newest sayings are, "Oh, so, when did that happen?" and, "But Mom..." She likes to help herself now to the things in the upper cabinets and has started using her bathroom stool to reach things that she wants. She likes to read books and play outside, but it has been so cold and we need to get a swing set. (Check back for that one on Ella's 3rd Birthday Post).

And now for the pictures and videos.

 Playing block together.

Checking out the Christmas Tree. I barricaded it with boxed of books that I wrapped in Christmas paper.

Jack learned to climb onto the boxes a few days before Christmas.

 Walking!
Walking so fast he is a blur!

Ella got a present too, so she didn't feel left out. I am not sure why she isn't wearing a shirt.
